THE AGE-OLD ART OF SPINNING CAN TURN THE HAIR YOUR DOG SHEDS INTO WARM BEAUTIFUL YARN!

Dog hair yarn has even acquired its own name - CHEINGORA (pronounced she-an-gora).  Chein is French for dog and gora is from angora, the fiber dog hair most closely resembles.

The most striking feature of cheingora is its unique fur-like appearance.  Chiengora fluffs as it’s worn.  This fluffing maintains the new appearance of anything made from dog hair.  For warmth it’s hard to beat cheingora.  Putting on a pair of mittens made from it is a real treat.  They actually feel warmer as the temperature drops.  Because of  this quality, dog hair is more comfortably worn in cool to cold temperatures.  Because cheingora is also somewhat water-repellent, it insulates well in cold damp weather.

The softest yarn comes from the combed undercoat of double-coated breeds.  The natural shading of these dogs gives the yarn a beautiful, stunning color.  Cheingora yarn can be used in a variety of ways.  It can be knit by hand or by machine, crochet or used as weft by hand weavers.  The number of items you can make from it is limited only by your imagination.

Caring for items made from dog hair is surprisingly simple.  Small items made from chiengora are easily handwashed while very large items can be dry-cleaned.

I have some Cheingora from different breeds of dogs, and light and dark wool available.  I can also spin hair from your own dogs.  Contact me for more information.
