We chose to rescue Dobermans because first of all they are just stunning! They are also intelligent, loyal, and loving. But because they are so intelligent they require intelligent handling. Dobermans need an outlet for their physical energy as well as training. They always need to know who the boss is. They are a very proud breed and can react negatively to someone who doesn’t give them respect. Because of their intelligence they are not a breed that is for everyone. You cannot treat this breed like your child or baby, that is where people go wrong. They need structure and boundaries and need to be treated like what they are – a dog!
Dobermans are nicknamed “Velcro dogs” because they will always be at your side and with the ones they love. They are not aggressive dogs but have a natural instinct to protect their family and home.
There are thousands of Dobermans in shelters everywhere due to the lack of commitment of owners. We suggest doing research on the breed before bringing a Doberman into your home.
Dobes come in 4 colors and albino. The most common is black and tan. There is also Red and Rust. Fawn is a dilute of red and blue is a dilute of black. Dobermans have short hair so they require minimal grooming. A bath once a month and weekly nail trimming and ear cleaning is what we recommend.
We have all Dobermans in our rescue completely vetted. Once they are ready for adoption we try to match the right Dobe to the right family.
