'Tis Better to Give
Shopping tips by Jo Pagnanelli, Favorites for Heart and Home
Over time, the thrill of receiving transforms into the joy of giving to others, and it’s the sparkle you can put in someone else’s eyes that you begin to anticipate the most.

But for many people, finding the time to shop for “just the right gift” can be a challenge. Gift shopping doesn’t have to be a chore! It doesn’t have to take hours of your time, and it doesn’t have to be a financial burden.

Selecting the perfect gift for members of your family, your friends, business associates, or clients – whether it be for the upcoming holidays, a birthday, or “a token of thanks” – should be fun and timely. JUST THINK ABOUT THE PERSON AND WHAT THEY REALLY LIKE... their favorite color, favorite vacation spot, hobby or sport, favorite home décor, or their very special animal friend... AND GIFT GIVING CAN BE EASY.,p> Here are a few gift ideas that I like to refer to as “Keepers” – a gift that never goes “out of style,” and conveys immediate gratification from the receiver year after year:

A custom-made embroidered pillow with a notable quote or sincere saying, or a hand-made needlepoint pillow with the image of the recipients canine, feline, or equine friend.

A photo frame or photo album. Many people still love to have their pictures printed. Include a photo from childhood or from a special occasion or holiday.

Jewelry – be it precious or semi-precious stones or fabulous faux – from a great pair of earrings, necklace or bracelet to a fanciful key ring...it will be used and loved day after day.

A vase, flower pot or container to a green-thumbed friend or relative so that he/she knows that you too appreciate the natural beauty of growing things.

Ornaments or novelty stockings – true favorites depict the image of ones animal friend(s), or have a space for personalization. These always provide invaluable memories for years to come... as do any that have to do with Pittsburgh or our sports teams.

Since the holidays are times for making merry, shop for “sure-fire” winning gifts that will put a smile on anyone’s face.

The warmth and glow of a candle – possibly with a favorite scent like lavender, vanilla, cinnamon, or balsam pine. For the literary intellectual, a new bookmark is always a treat. Add a small novelty book of a favorite or humorous subject.

Remember:

1. When it comes to giving gifts, small ones can make a BIG statement. It really is the thought that counts – and the time that you put into it will be very rewarding.
2. When in doubt...a gift certificate is always a favorite.
3. For a personalized shopping experience and service to help you choose “their favorite fits,” shop at Favorites!
