Finding Your Lost Pet
It’s a horrible scenario. Your dog or cat takes off chasing an animal, or just wanders away. No matter how careful you are accidents happen and, unfortunately, people lose their pets. The following suggestions for finding your lost pet come from the Western PA Humane Society.

Dogs

1. Post your lost pet on their website www.telephonepole.org

2. Contact the Lost & Found Department all the local shelters:
Western PA Humane Society 412-321-4625 X305
Western PA Humane Society Fallen Timber 412-751-2010
Animal Rescue League 412-661-6452
Animal Friends 412-847-7000
Triangle Pet 412-771-7387

3. Notify your vet and call the veterinarians nearest to you to see if your pet has been taken there.

4. Make posters using a colored picture and ask permission to put them up in your local stores. Pass out the posters door to door in your neighborhood.

5. If your dog is used to being walked, he/she will most likely head out in that direction.

6. If you’ve moved recently, there is a good chance that he/she is headed toward your old neighborhood.

7. Mention your lost pet to your mail carrier and the neighborhood children, they are aware of things happening in your neighborhood.

8. View their website at www.telephonepole.org for more tips!

Cats

For lost cats, follow the above tips, along with:

1. Check your neighbor’s garages, cats seem to like to hide there. Also check any vacant or abandoned houses, or houses that are for sale.

2. Put an article of clothing with your scent on it or something the cat is used to sleeping on out on the back porch or somewhere that is quiet. Sometimes they will come back late at night to that spot.
